I have built three Galactica's, one original and two the 2000 cgi version.
Some people hate the new version some love it. Frankly I feel it was one of the finest Sci-Fi shows in terms of drama, action ever created.
My original Galactica started out as a foam hull. Plastic sheeting was then superguled over the foam board.
I was very pleased with this build, despite not using the model kits that some feel are necessary.
Testing out lights. I use grain of wheat bulbs powered by four AA batteries.

The new Galactica proved to be difficult. I was not sure how to shape the hull, so I glued sheet plastic over a frame. I was not happy with the results.
Completed original Galactica. 38" long.
I knew my shape compared to blueprints was off but I kept sanding and hoping...

Well like I said I was not happy with with this scratch build, and it would be a year before I attempted it again.

The outboard engines will also be lit with blue LEDs, since thay are solid wood I must first drill holes for lights and wires.
I carved the hull out of solid balsa, then joined all the hull parts together, I was able to maintain blueprint shape better this way.
Here are my two Galactica's Not in scale! The new ship would be three to four times larger than the original.
I scribed all the hull plating, but was not happy with it. So I started adding plating of lighter blues,blacks and grey-I liked the result.
